Compare Blog vs. Website vs. Online Sales Letters. What is the Difference?
People have asked me this question - and you may be wondering, “which type of website design should I be concentrating on to build my business, how do you compare a company website, a blog or a direct response online sales letter… what is the difference?”
This distinction can be the difference between you spending a LOT of money on your website and not getting a very positive result, verses getting a fantastic result for good value.
Traditionally corporate “hub” style websites were the main option businesses looked at for presenting a positive image to the world, but they are not the only option you should consider - and may not get you the best result.
In order to know which will be the best type of website for you, understanding the different types will put you in a more powerful position.
The differences are outlined below.
Corporate Hub Website
- Includes the traditional company information with tabs such as products, About Us, Contact Us, and an overview of all facets of the business
- Has links to other pages
- Is about the business – written in more formal language
- You describe your products & services & this only changes when your products or services change.
- Is designed to provide an overview of entire organisation activity
- Is designed to impress and build credibility
Sales Page Website - direct response
- Traditionally is one long sales page website - focused on getting you a immediate direct response
- Includes lots of testimonials scattered throughout the page
- Is written to speak directly to the person buying the product - conversational
- Can buy directly from link on the page
- Is not linked to other facets of the business necessarily
- Is designed to sell one product or service only – FOCUSED on a single outcom
Blog Websites
- Blogs are dynamic - blogs are usually updated every week.
- Blogs can be interactive - people can leave their comments and participate with your blog.
- Blogs rank very highly with the search engines. Google can easily scan your words because of clean code - Google loves blogs!
Not all web designers have invested the time to study marketing. And not all web designers will know how to strategically guide you to achieve the best possible results from your website - most look at how to make you a site that looks good.
Make sure you work with a company that can build you a website that will achieve a business result that you want!
So ultimately the answer to - “what type of website design will work for me - a company website, a blog or a direct response online sales letter?” - the answer is - all three will work, and you probably will want all three - they just fulfill different purposes.
found your site on del.icio.us today and really liked it.. i bookmarked it and will be back to check it out some more later ..
Hi Barnaby
I was on the teleconference call today with the Grants. Are you able to help me set this up for me?
Hey Barnaby,
It’s Roz in China!
I’m shortly getting a sales website built for me from an oscommerce template I bought through the internet.
My question is - can these sort of templates be designed to add a blog page. I know nothing about this stuff and thought I would send your reply to the person who is building my website.
Warm regards,
Roz
Thanks, grade locality, has added in elite.
